The Democrats think Romney just self-destructed by pointing out, um, THEIR ENTIRE STRATEGY | The Daily Caller

The Democrats think Romney just self-destructed by pointing out, um, THEIR ENTIRE STRATEGY | The Daily Caller: I can see why Democrats are so offended. How dare Mitt Romney say they’re dependent on the government? Only Democrats get to say they’re dependent on the government! Has everybody already forgotten “Julia”?

How NOT To Make Friends And Influence People | According To Hoyt

I seriously doubt most CEOs in this country agree with me politically, but why should I care? What's *far* more troubling are elected officials who believe they have the right to police people's thoughts. That's tyranny, folks.

How NOT To Make Friends And Influence People | According To Hoyt: What are you going to do for an encore? Go after every business in this country that’s owned by a religious person? Till – what? – everyone in the nation turns against you and buys a roll of duct tape to shut you up?

McOlympics? That’s fine with me | Rob Lyons | spiked

Yum, I might get some McDonald's for lunch now...

McOlympics? That’s fine with me | Rob Lyons | spiked: Essentially, doctors, nutritionists and commentators seem to believe that the mere sight of those McDonald’s ‘golden arches’ is enough to turn us into salivating hordes who won’t be satisfied till we are chomping down on a feast of saturated fat, with a side order of coronary-inducing confectionery and a super-sized portion of fizzy diabetes juice. In the fairytale world of health campaigners and liberal columnists, the masses are stupid, child-like drones being force-fed lethal products by heartless, malevolent corporations.

North Dakota Voters Consider Ending Property Tax - NYTimes.com

Property tax has always struck me as much less fair than income or sales taxes. I'd be all in favor of abolishing it completely, even if it means raising income and sales taxes to make up the revenue.

North Dakota Voters Consider Ending Property Tax - NYTimes.com: They argue that the tax is unpredictable, inconsistent, counter to the concept of property ownership and needless in a state that, thanks in part to wildly successful oil drilling, finds itself in the rare circumstance of carrying budget reserves.

Gladly Lerne, Gladly Teche: Hate Crimes

Gladly Lerne, Gladly Teche: Hate Crimes: So far as I am concerned punishing people for what they think is not a slippery slope, but the ski jump at Chamonix.

Screw Tax-Deferred Savings Accounts, Just Give Me Socialism - Rhymes With Cars & Girls

We gave up on FSAs because the money we saved in taxes wasn't worth the hassle of trying to get our money reimbursed, and it wasn't worth the annual use-it-or-lose-it spending spree in December. Not to mention the idiocy of having your employer administer it. What a horrid way to set up a program that ostensibly is supposed to help.

(Warning: salty language follows...)

Screw Tax-Deferred Savings Accounts, Just Give Me Socialism - Rhymes With Cars & Girls: But allow me to seize the rare opportunity to criticize Republican ideas by saying that these sorts of ‘account’ ideas – all of them – suck. Essentially, in one way or another all of these ‘accounts’ boil down to having money garnished from your paycheck and then being forced to beg for it back using paperwork and bureaucracy-navigation, by documenting that you used the money for the government-approved activity (and/or having an insanely complicated tax form).

Why gay marriage is a very bad idea | Brendan O’Neill | spiked

This is what perturbs me most about the gay marriage debate, too. I don't think I've ever seen it spelled out so clearly:

Why gay marriage is a very bad idea | Brendan O’Neill | spiked: The reason the gay-marriage issue can feel like it came from nowhere, and is now everywhere, is because it is an entirely top-down, elite-driven thing. The true driving force behind it is not any real or publicly manifested hunger amongst homosexual couples to get wed, far less a broader public appetite for the reform of the institution of marriage; rather it is the need of the political and media class for an issue through which to signify its values and advertise its superiority. Gay marriage is not a real issue - it is a cultural signifier, like wearing a pink ribbon to show you care about breast cancer.

Allysia Finley: Coffee Is an Essential Benefit Too - WSJ.com

Careful - this might give them ideas...

Allysia Finley: Coffee Is an Essential Benefit Too - WSJ.com: Can you believe the nerve of employers? Many of them still seem to think that they should be allowed to determine the benefits they offer.

John Cochrane: The Real Trouble With the Birth-Control Mandate - WSJ.com

I get annoyed ever time someone says such-and-so drug is going to be "free"...

John Cochrane: The Real Trouble With the Birth-Control Mandate - WSJ.com: Insurance is a bad idea for small, regular and predictable expenses. There are good reasons that your car insurance company doesn't add $100 per year to your premium and then cover oil changes, and that your health insurance doesn't charge $50 more per year and cover toothpaste.

Robert George and Carter Snead: Planned Parenthood's Hostages - WSJ.com

Robert George and Carter Snead: Planned Parenthood's Hostages - WSJ.com: Breast-cancer victims are only the latest hostages taken by Planned Parenthood. Unless the organization is finally held to account, they will surely not be the last.
