Oh yeah, my 40-inch-old loves her some pink. Though she often presents us with a list of her favorite colors, and expects us to have our own list. Unfortunately, she doesn't like orange, though she knows she's expected to wear and like it when we visit Princeton!

Screw Tax-Deferred Savings Accounts, Just Give Me Socialism - Rhymes With Cars & Girls
We gave up on FSAs because the money we saved in taxes wasn't worth the hassle of trying to get our money reimbursed, and it wasn't worth the annual use-it-or-lose-it spending spree in December. Not to mention the idiocy of having your employer administer it. What a horrid way to set up a program that ostensibly is supposed to help.

Screw Tax-Deferred Savings Accounts, Just Give Me Socialism - Rhymes With Cars & Girls: But allow me to seize the rare opportunity to criticize Republican ideas by saying that these sorts of ‘account’ ideas – all of them – suck. Essentially, in one way or another all of these ‘accounts’ boil down to having money garnished from your paycheck and then being forced to beg for it back using paperwork and bureaucracy-navigation, by documenting that you used the money for the government-approved activity (and/or having an insanely complicated tax form).

This is what perturbs me most about the gay marriage debate, too. I don't think I've ever seen it spelled out so clearly:

The true driving force behind it is not any real or publicly manifested hunger amongst homosexual couples to get wed, far less a broader public appetite for the reform of the institution of marriage; rather it is the need of the political and media class for an issue through which to signify its values and advertise its superiority. Gay marriage is not a real issue - it is a cultural signifier, like wearing a pink ribbon to show you care about breast cancer.
